Introducing Ms Simms and The Amazing Mathemagicians in Room 313

Hello! Hola! Olá! Bom dia! Wha gwan?1 Bonjour! Asalaam alaikum! Habari! Shalom! Namaste!

Welcome to my page! My name is Ms. Simms and this is my 7th year teaching at Ryder Math & Science. This year I am excited to be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades Mathematics,  and I am the 8th Grade’s Homeroom Teacher (shoutout to the Class of 2022).  This year Mr. Cook are grateful to be able to continue to co-teach in Middle School Math.   Mr. Cook and I have a special approach to math and we believe that every student in our class has the ability to learn and love math!

I have a Bachelor's Degree from Carleton College in Northfield, MN and Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Middle School Education from Roosevelt University. I was a 2019-2020 Ambassador for Khan Academy for Chicago and a 2020-2021 winner of Fulbright's Distinguished Award in Teaching.  When we are not making magic in the math classroom, in my spare time, I dance with three companies here in Chicago and teach dance at Ryder and throughout the city.

This school year we will learn:

  • How to persevere as mathematicians
  • Real world problem solving strategies
  • How to work and succeed as a community of Mathematicians
  • How to use 360 Degree Math to learn math skills
  • Using technology and tools to improve our mathematical practices and precision

These are just a few of the great thing that happens in Room 313. Listed below are some tools that students can use further the learning.
