Introducing Ms Simms and The Amazing Mathemagicians in Room 313
Hello! Hola! ! Shalom! Namaste!
Welcome to my page! My name is Ms. Simms and this is my 7th year teaching at Ryder Math & Science. This year I am excited to be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades Mathematics, and I am the 7th Grade’s Homeroom Teacher. This year I have been blessed to co-teach with Mr. Cook, Ryder’s Diverse Learner Middle School Math Teacher. Mr. Cook and I have a special approach to math and we believe that every student in our class has the ability to learn and love math!
I have a Bachelor's Degree from Carleton College in Northfield, MN and Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Middle School Education from Roosevelt University. I am a 2019-2020 Ambassador for Khan Academy for Chicago. When we are not making magic in the math classroom, in my spare time, I dance with three companies here in Chicago and teach dance at Ryder and throughout the city.
This school year we will learn:
- How to persevere as mathematicians
- Real world problem solving strategies
- How to work and succeed as a community of Mathematicians
- How to use 360 Degree Math to learn math skills
- Using technology and tools to improve our mathematical practices and precision
These are just a few of the great thing that happens in Room 313. Listed below are some tools that students can use further the learning.
